The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will face off in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX, with the winner taking home the Lombardi Trophy.
Both of these clubs punched their tickets to the Big Easy with spectacular conference championship victories. Philadelphia relied heavily on its running game, rushing for six touchdowns in a rout of the Washington Commanders. The Chiefs’ game against the Buffalo Bills came down to the wire, but Patrick Mahomes was once again able to work some late-game magic to advance to the Super Bowl LIX for the fifth time in his career.
Here’s an early look at Super Bowl 59 and some noteworthy storylines to keep an eye on. Odds from DraftKings Sportsbook.

These two teams have clashed on this huge stage before. We simply have to look back to Super Bowl LVII in February 2023 to see their most recent clash. Back then, Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs defeated Jalen Hurts and the Eagles 38-35 to win the franchise’s second Super Bowl.
Mahomes and Hurts are the fourth set of opposing quarterbacks to face off in multiple Super Bowls, behind Terry Bradshaw vs. Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman vs. Jim Kelly, and Eli Manning vs. Tom Brady.
The Kansas City Chiefs are attempting to accomplish an unprecedented record in the NFL: winning three consecutive Super Bowl LIX. Indeed, the Chiefs are the only team in history to proceed to the LIX with a chance to win three consecutive championships. They are also only the fourth club in history to win three consecutive Super Bowls (1971-73 Miami Dolphins, 1990-93 Buffalo Bills, and 2016-2018 New England Patriots).
Reason for optimism: The Chiefs’ defense has regularly kept them in games, so they won’t need to score many points to win their third Super Bowl in a row. Kansas City concluded the regular season ranked fourth in scoring defense (19.2 points per game). The pass rush, which combined for 10 sacks against the Texans and Bills in postseason, has also been productive recently.
Reason for concern: Quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ protection has been questionable at times. Mahomes was sacked 36 times during the regular season, the most in his career, and an additional five times in the playoffs. The Chiefs benched three different players at left tackle before deciding on Joe Thuney, who moved outside from left guard.
